Your Visibility Report flagged something under SEO & Technical, and the labels read like they were written for a developer. "Missing H1 heading." "Meta description generic or missing." "HTTPS not detected."
This guide covers local SEO for barbershops: what each of the six flags means, which to fix first, and a message you can send to your web person today.
What does the SEO & Technical score check?
Six things: whether your site is secure (HTTPS), how fast it loads, whether your pages have a clear headline (H1), page title, and meta description, and whether Google can tell you run a local business (schema markup).
Three of the six take about 15 minutes in your site editor. Three need your web person or host. Knowing what to ask for is enough.
This is one score inside the bigger barbershop online visibility picture. Your Google Business Profile is scored separately, and fixing a low Google Business Profile score is its own job.
Which flags should you fix first?
Work top to bottom. HTTPS and load speed come first because they affect every visitor, and both need your web person or host. The next three are quick edits you can make yourself. Schema goes last because it's a one-time job for your web person.
| Order | Flag | What it means | Who fixes it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | HTTPS not detected | Browsers can warn visitors your site isn't secure | Web person or host |
| 2 | Load speed over 2s target | Slow pages lose people before they see your Book button | Web person |
| 3 | Missing H1 heading | Google can't tell what the page is about | You |
| 4 | Page title outside ideal range | Your title gets cut off or ignored in search results | You |
| 5 | Meta description generic or missing | Google writes the text under your name for you | You |
| 6 | Localization schema markup | Google has to guess your address, hours, and business type | Web person |
How do you fix HTTPS and slow load speed?
These two come first because they hit every person who lands on your site.
HTTPS. Look at the start of your web address. If it says http:// instead of https://, your site isn't encrypted, and some browsers show a "Not secure" warning right where a new client is about to book. Ask your host or web person to install an SSL certificate and redirect every http:// page to https://. Many hosts include this at no extra cost.
Load speed. The report's target is 2 seconds. Common culprits on barbershop sites are phone photos uploaded at full size, autoplay video, and stacked widgets. Ask: "Can you compress the images and tell me what's slowing down the homepage?"
Booking button placement and tap targets are a different set of flags.
How do you fix your H1, page title, and meta description?
These three are text edits.
- H1 heading. This is the main headline at the top of the page. Every page gets one, and it should say what you do and where. "Welcome" tells Google nothing. "Barbershop in East Austin" does.
- Page title. This is the blue line in search results. Aim for about 50 to 60 characters so it doesn't get cut off. Use shop name, what you do best, and your neighborhood or city: "Mason's Barbershop | Fades & Beard Trims in East Austin."
- Meta description. This is the two-line summary under the title. Aim for about 150 to 160 characters. Name your neighborhood, what you're known for, and how to book: "East Austin barbershop for fades, tapers, and beard trims. Walk-ins welcome, and you can book your next cut online in a few taps. Open six days a week." Google doesn’t rank pages on meta descriptions directly. A good one gives searchers a reason to click your result, and more clicks can help your page over time.
What is schema markup, and does a barbershop need it?
Schema markup is a block of code behind your page that labels your shop's details for Google: name, address, phone, hours, and that you're a barbershop. Without it, Google has to guess from the page text.
The report flags this as localization schema markup because it is the clearest signal that you're a local business at a specific address.
Schema matters for AI search too. Microsoft has said schema markup helps its LLMs understand web content, and clear markup gives AI tools the right facts about your shop to work from when someone asks for a barber nearby.Ask your web person to add LocalBusiness schema (the BarberShop type) once, then test it with a free schema validator. After that, you only touch it when your hours or address change.
What should you send your web person?
Chico Boom ran the report live on his shop in Fort Myers and scored a 57. His reaction: "I don't have to go pay somebody to research for me or see what's going on. It's giving it to me right there in real time."
The research is done. What's left is handing it off. Copy this, fill in the brackets, and send it today:
Subject: Fixes from my SQUIRE Visibility Report (SEO & Technical)
Hi [Name],
I ran my shop through the SQUIRE Visibility Report and it flagged these on my website. Can you take these on, or tell me what you need from me?
- HTTPS not detected. Please install an SSL certificate and redirect all http:// pages to https://.
- Load speed over the 2 second target. Please compress the images, check what's slowing the homepage, and send me the before and after load time.
- Missing H1 heading. Every page needs one H1 that says what the page is. For the homepage: "[Shop name] | [Service] in [Neighborhood]."
- Page title outside the ideal range. Please set the homepage title to about 50 to 60 characters: shop name, main service, city.
- Meta description generic or missing. Please add one of about 150 to 160 characters with my neighborhood and a way to book.
- Localization schema markup. Please add LocalBusiness (BarberShop) schema with my name, address, phone, hours, and booking URL, and confirm it passes a schema validator.
Reply with what's done and what you need from me. Thanks, [Your name]
