BEHIND THE NAME

Back in the Middle Ages, a “squire” was a young individual who served and supported someone in a mentorship or apprenticeship role, on the way to becoming a knight. Squirehood was all about learning and mentorship, a strong sense of integrity, solid values, and upwards trajectory.

Bringing it to the modern day, the barbering world is marked by these principles: strengthening character, developing skills, building relationships, and ultimately, paying it forward – to other barbers, to neighborhoods, to future generations. SQUIRE seeks to embody these values on our mission of enriching and elevating all barbers, shop owners, and their communities.

FOUNDER STORY

In 2015, as Songe LaRon and Dave Salvant watched apps change the game for restaurants, ride shares, and other everyday services, they saw an opportunity. As Black men, they knew the unique culture and the importance barbershops hold in local communities. And they knew that for generations, little about the way the shops were run had changed.

They had a vision: a seamless system that would transform the way barbershop owners across the world ran their shops, and in turn, revolutionize the barbering industry. SQUIRE was officially launched in 2015, and is now serving 3,000 shops and processes over $1B in payments in more than a thousand cities around the globe. And they’re still writing history.
